March Meeting Recap

Date: March 7, 2015
Location: Burdette Library-Taylors
President Cheryl Brickey called the meeting to order at 1:00 pm. Seventeen people were in attendance.

Cheryl reminded us to sign up on the web site: www.greenvillemodernquiltguild.blogspot.com to receive information on our monthly meeting date and location as it may change depending on availability of the library.

Cheryl and Marilyn will continue to work on the by-laws which will be presented for input and discussion at the April meeting.  Everyone who attends this meeting will get a door prize. 

Member news:
            Christa's twins, Luke and Liam, have arrived
            Paige's entry won 2nd place in the Michael Miller challenge at Quilt Con
            Cheryl also had quilts accepted into Quilt Con
            Brenda has a quilt accepted into Paducah
            Faye will have a quilt at Art Fields
            Cheryl has designed the free March pattern of the month for MQG. 

Philanthropy: 
            Darleen has contacted the Meyer Center regarding our donation of a quilt for their auction.  She does not have any definite information at this time.

Block of the Month Challenge:
Lucy handed out instructions for a log cabin block from the MQG.  It was suggested that each of us makes this block in blues and greens for the philanthropy quilt.  Darleen will put the quilt blocks together.  The link to the block instructions can be found here:

Swap:
The oven mitt swap will be in May – if you bring one, you get to take one home.

 Show & Share:
            Lucy – MQG block of the month quilt
            Brenda – quilt influenced by Nancy Crow workshop
            Faye – quilt for Home of Hope;  improv piecing on adding machine paper; art quilt using various techniques such as rusting, stencils, silk screen
            Cheryl – quilt using her March pattern of the month for MQG

 Program:
            The March program was a recap of Quit Con attended by Cheryl, Brenda and Paige.  Cheryl and Brenda talked about the workshops and lectures they attended. Cheryl showed the blocks she made in the Gee's Bend workshop.  We also viewed pictures taken by Paige (some some by Brenda and Cheryl) of many of the quilts hanging at Quilt Con.

Door Prizes:
            Brenda won a paper pieced Christmas Star block donated by Darleen and Darleen won 3 fat quarters donated by Cheryl.

Upcoming meetings:
  • April 11th @ Taylors Library:  Discussion and voting on by-laws
  • May 9th @ Taylors Library:  Big stitch hand quilting by Debby West. Information and supply list will be in a later post.
