Program:  Faye Jones: “The Many Uses of the Running Stitch”

Faye gave us a brief history of the running stitch which included the Japanese techniques of Sashiko and Boro, and the Kantha stitch used by the women of Bengali. She also discussed how the running stitch can be used in combination with machine quilting. Faye provided examples of the best fabrics, threads, needles and other supplies to use with the various running stitch techniques. She had several examples of ways to use the stitch to decorate items such as pincushions, fabric bowls, pillows, tote bags, needlebooks and clothing. Each of us was then provided with a kit to learn the proper method of doing Sashiko. More information on Faye's program and resources can be found here.
